Linux services

Wireless Dimensions provides a wide range of Linux services to cater for the connectivity and network management needs of homes offices, small to medium size enterprises and even larger corporations in South Africa.

The main Linux services available include:

  • Virtual Private Network (VPN) solutions
  • Anti-Spam and virus control
  • Hotspot control
  • Security
  • Exchange Server
  • Customised solutions according to client needs.

Three of the services will be discussed to provide you an indication of the wide range of Linux services available.

VPN solutions

VPN entails the creation of secure tunnels for communication and transmission of data over the Internet. This solution is ideal for companies with several branches or those enterprises with many telecommuting workers. Through the Wireless Dimensions VPN solution the remote offices can be connected to the main office through one network that uses the existing Internet infrastructure. This makes it possible for company branches to collaborate on projects.

If for example User A changes information in the shared database at his location, the changes will automatically also take effect at the location where User B is situated. Documents can be printed from any of the locations that share the VPN and employees can work on the same document. Changes are made in real-time. The VPN tunnels are secure and private. Although a public network is used to connect the branches, the tunnels stay secure. The data is encapsulated and secure passwords are used.

Anti-Spam and virus control

Spam takes up traffic and bandwidth. Reviewing and deleting the spam messages which can easily come to hundreds is a time consuming process. Viruses which often come with the spam also cause unnecessary headaches. Wireless Dimensions provides an anti-spam and anti-virus solution as part of the Linux services offered blocking 90% of spam and viruses which come through email messages.

A Linux server is placed at the client premises which can be behind an exchange server or form part of the client’s desktop. The server collects and scans all incoming mail before the client receives it. Instead of taking up broadband space, the spam or junk mail is blocked before being downloaded. The spam server mails the client daily with a list of blocked messages. The client can select the ones that should be delivered and thus prevents the problem of blocking legitimated mail. If there are spam messages that still come through, the client can send them to the spam block address for future blocking. The client also has the option to set criteria for blocking. The spam solution looks at the content rather than the sender and can thus learns which messages to block.

Hotspot control

hotspot is any public or private area where access to the Internet is provided through wireless technology. Restaurant owners, stationery shops, game shops, movie stores, libraries etc. all benefit from the ability to provide their patrons access to the Internet through hotspots set-up by Wireless Dimensions. The hotpot is controlled by the owner who can manage it without extreme technical knowledge. The hotspot is Linux based and includes a company branded interface and control panel. This allows the hotspot owner full control of access, bandwidth caps, timed tickets, statistic, and tariffs.

Contact Wireless Dimensions to make use of the above Linux services at affordable rates. The expert consultants will also be able to provide more information regarding other Linux services offered such as the WDGuard security solution and the exchange server option.
